Black seed (الحبّة السوداء) — al-ḥabba al-sawdāʾ
The Prophet ﷺ said: “In the black seed there is healing for every disease except death (as-sām).”
Bukhārī 5688 · Muslim 2215 · Open on Sunnah.com
Scholars understood this as a general blessing in the seed (Nigella sativa), not a claim that it replaces every treatment by itself. Ibn Ḥajar and others noted that “every disease” can mean many illnesses in the practice of the Arabs of that time, or a broad benefit with exceptions known to Allah — and that as-sām (death) is explicitly excluded.
- Modern Muslim physicians and herbal educators often discuss black seed oil/seed as a supportive wellness food — never as a substitute for diagnosis or prescribed care.
- Prophetic medicine is studied as part of the Sunnah of prevention, moderation, and trust in Allah (tawakkul), alongside seeking treatment (the Prophet ﷺ encouraged medicine).
- For deeper reading: authentic ḥadīth collections first; then works cataloguing aṭ-ṭibb an-nabawī (e.g. Ibn al-Qayyim’s discussions) under a teacher — not internet self-prescription.
Other well-attested Prophetic remedies in the rotation: honey, dates (ʿajwah), cupping (ḥijāmah), and the principle of seeking treatment.

📖 Stories of the Prophets
⚰️ Ṣalāt al-Janāzah (funeral prayer)
- Ḥanafī: typically four takbīrs; Fātiḥah not required as in daily prayer in the same way — follow your text/imam.
- Mālikī / Shāfiʿī / Ḥanbalī: details of Fātiḥah and duʿāʾ placement vary — study your madhhab.
- In congregation: do what the imam does and ask him afterward if unsure.
- Intention in the heart for the funeral prayer for this deceased, following the imam if in congregation.
- First takbīr — then recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah (many also recite a short sūrah; schools differ).
- Second takbīr — send ṣalawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ (as in the final tashahhud of the daily prayer).
- Third takbīr — make duʿāʾ for the deceased (and often for all Muslims). Example: the long duʿāʾ beginning with Allāhumma ighfir li-ḥayyinā wa mayyitinā…
- Fourth takbīr — brief pause / short duʿāʾ, then salām to the right (and left, according to the school).
O Allah, forgive him/her, have mercy on him/her, give him/her peace and pardon him/her. Make his/her rest honourable and his/her entry spacious. Wash him/her with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him/her of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Exchange his/her home for a better home, family for a better family, and spouse for a better spouse. Admit him/her to Paradise and protect him/her from the punishment of the grave and of the Fire. (Muslim)
After the prayer: bury without delay when possible, make duʿāʾ at the grave, and continue ṣadaqah, Qurʾān, and istighfār on their behalf. Further reading (IslamQA overview) →
Preparing the Deceased & Islamic Burial — Process & Resources
When a Muslim dies, the community has a collective duty (farḍ kifāyah) to wash, shroud, pray over, and bury the body with dignity and without unnecessary delay. Below is a concise overview and trusted online resources for Muslim-majority and non-Muslim countries.
- Confirm death and notify family / local mosque / Islamic funeral service promptly.
- Ghusl — ritual washing by same-gender Muslims (or trained helpers).
- Kafan — shrouding in simple white cloth (typically 3 layers for men, 5 for women).
- Ṣalāt al-Janāzah — funeral prayer (standing, no rukūʿ/sujūd).
- Burial (dafn) — preferably in a Muslim cemetery or Muslim section; body on the right side facing the Qiblah; haste is recommended.
Avoid cremation. Embalming is generally avoided when possible; scholars allow exceptions for legal/transport necessity.
- Local mosques and municipal Islamic burial offices usually handle ghusl, kafan, janāzah and cemetery allocation quickly.
- Follow local health and civil registration requirements (death certificate) while keeping the ritual sequence intact.
- Contact your neighbourhood mosque or the national Islamic affairs authority for the nearest facility.
- Contact the nearest mosque or a Muslim funeral director experienced in Islamic rites as soon as possible.
- Prefer burial where the person died (local Muslim cemetery or Muslim section). Repatriation is costly, often requires embalming or sealed caskets, and delays burial — many scholars discourage it unless there is a clear need.
- If only a non-Muslim cemetery is available, bury there under necessity (ḍarūrah); request Qiblah orientation and a plot near other Muslims when possible.
- Obtain the legal burial permit / death certificate; funeral directors familiar with Islamic practice coordinate paperwork, ghusl facilities, and cemetery booking.
The Prophet ﷺ encouraged writing a will. A Muslim may bequeath up to one-third of the estate; the rest follows fixed Qurʾānic inheritance shares (farāʾiḍ) after debts and funeral costs. The will should also record funeral wishes, unpaid religious obligations (missed prayers/fasts, zakat, Hajj), trusts held for others, and an executor (waṣī).

❤️ Heart — niyyah & diseases
When the heart is sound, the body is sound (Bukhari & Muslim). Ask: what intention drove my main deeds today?
- Renew intention for tomorrow’s first deed
- One istighfār for a hidden fault
- Duʿāʾ: “O Turner of hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.”
🗣️ Tongue — speech & silence
Speak good or remain silent (Bukhari · Muslim). Backbiting eats good deeds.
- Seek forgiveness for one doubtful sentence
- Replace one complaint with thanks

What Benefits the Deceased in the Grave — From the Scholars
Classical scholars emphasised that the living can benefit the dead through specific deeds that reach them by Allah’s permission. Below is a concise summary drawn from mainstream Sunni fiqh and the writings of major scholars, beginning with Imam al-Ghazālī. Sources refresh from online references each page load.
- He taught that constant remembrance of death softens the heart, reduces attachment to the world, and prepares the soul for the grave. “Remember often the destroyer of pleasures (death).”
- The grave itself addresses the deceased: if the person was obedient, it becomes a garden of mercy and light; if rebellious, a place of constriction. Good deeds done in life answer on behalf of the believer.
- The living benefit the dead through sincere duʿāʾ, seeking forgiveness, charity given on their behalf, and the reward of Qurʾān and righteous actions intended for them.
- He urged visiting graves to awaken the heart and to send light ahead while one is still able to act.

- Duʿāʾ and istighfār made for them
- Ṣadaqah given on their behalf
- Hajj and ʿUmrah performed on their behalf (when conditions are met)
- The reward of righteous deeds that the deceased themselves had set in motion (ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, righteous children who pray for them)
- Duʿāʾ & Istighfār — the most agreed-upon and powerful gift
- Ṣadaqah (including ongoing charity / waqf) on behalf of the deceased
- Qurʾān recitation with the intention that its reward reaches them (widely accepted)
- Ḥajj / ʿUmrah and fasting on their behalf when appropriate
- Righteous offspring who continue to pray and do good

🔥 Warnings of the Fire< deeds Allah linked to severe punishment
This is a reminder, not a fatwa. The Prophet ﷺ named seven destructive sins (al-mūbiqāt) in a report agreed upon by al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Other verses and ṣaḥīḥ reports also attach a warning of the Fire to specific crimes. A believer who dies upon unrepented shirk is not forgiven; other major sins are under Allah’s will — He may punish or pardon — and sincere tawbah is accepted before death. Verify personal cases with a trusted scholar.
Core ḥadīth: Abū Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Avoid the seven destructive sins.” They asked, “What are they, O Messenger of Allah?” He said: “Associating partners with Allah; sorcery; killing a soul Allah has forbidden except by right; consuming ribā; consuming an orphan’s wealth; fleeing the battlefield; and slandering chaste, believing women who are unaware.” — Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2766 / 6857, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 89.
How scholars describe tawbah (repentance)
Imām al-Nawawī (Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn) and the majority: tawbah is obligatory from every sin. If the sin is only between the servant and Allah, three conditions; if it violates a human right, a fourth is added.
Stop the sin at once.
Feel genuine remorse.
Resolve never to return.
Return wealth, honour, or seek pardon if a person was wronged.
Window of acceptance: before the soul reaches the throat, and before the sun rises from the west (ḥadīth in Muslim and others). Allah says: “Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed Allah forgives all sins. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (al-Zumar 39:53). And: “…except those who repent, believe, and do righteous deeds — for them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good deeds.” (al-Furqān 25:70).
Also: Anas reported the qudsī ḥadīth: “O son of Ādam, were you to come to Me with an earthful of sins and then meet Me without having associated anything with Me, I would come to you with an earthful of pardon.” (al-Tirmidhī 3540; graded ḥasan by many, including al-Albānī). Ibn al-Qayyim: tawbah is not a phrase on the tongue only — it is leaving, regretting, and replacing harm with obedience.

On-device only · encrypted at rest · not a fatwa · you keep the passphrase record. Fill what you can so next of kin know where to begin. Confirm with a scholar and local counsel.
🌳 Family outline (for heirs · educational)
Simple on-device notes for who is in the household. Not a legal pedigree or court filing — confirm farāʾiḍ with a scholar.
🌳 Family tree
Ancestry pedigree · registry · linksPrivate descendant pedigree: oldest generation at the top, you at the bottom. Maiden names for women. Saved only on this device.
💡 How to use the Family Tree · quick guide
- Build pedigree — add members on the main tree; set ♂/♀, ● Alive / † Deceased, and birth year on each card.
- + Relative — link child, spouse, sibling, or parent from the searchable registry (or type a new name).
- 🌳 Own Family Tree — open a personal branch under the main view; siblings of the root appear without needing parents first.
- Family sheet / Data health — print or check missing genders & vitals before Farāʾiḍ.
- Privacy — data stays on this device only. Educational genealogy — not a legal pedigree certificate.
Educational only — not a fatwa. Use this map to load living heirs into Inheritance and Wasiyyah tools below.
1 · Member registry — add · link · build
Main workspace: Add people, link relations, then build the pedigree. On the tree, use + Child / + Spouse / + Sibling to attach from the loaded list.
Vitals (alive / gender / year) → set on the tree card after linking.
Registry contacts
Build tree from registry / loaded list
Map people from the loaded member list into generations, then apply to the pedigree workspace.
Choose the focus person and each generation from the list, then apply — links optional.
Hold Ctrl/Cmd to multi-select in generation lists. Auto-suggest uses each card’s generationHint when available.
2 · Loaded members — link · build tree
Upload CSV/JSON member cards. Search, link to the tree, or use them in Build tree above. Scan & delete duplicates finds same-name cards and removes extras (keeps the fullest record).
Extended pedigree: add a Sibling onto a great-grandparent to create that grandparent’s uncle, then add that uncle’s spouse and children. Same name on both lines is one person (cousin marriage).
Advanced · manual name fields (optional)
Prefer registry + loaded cards. These fields still power the pedigree data model if you type names directly.
Save · download · upload (collapsed until needed)
Pedigree save, file transfer, and named copies — outside the Edit names package. All files stay on this device.
Download Member cards · CSV (Excel) to edit names and generations in Excel, then Upload the same CSV back into the picker list. Full tree JSON restores links.
⚖️ Inheritance (Farāʾiḍ) — from your family tree
💡 How to use Inheritance (Farāʾiḍ) · quick guide
- Mark the tree first — living heirs need gender and vital status on the Family Tree.
- Load heirs — pull living relatives into this calculator; confirm who is a Qurʾānic sharer (farḍ) vs residual (ʿaṣabah).
- Estate net — funeral/debts first; optional wasiyyah ≤ ⅓ to non-heirs; then fixed shares (4:11–12, 4:176).
- Review — check ʿawl / radd notes if totals exceed or fall short; print only as a study sheet.
Educational tool only — not a fatwa, not a court order. Schools may differ on rare cases; consult a qualified scholar for a real estate.
Choose the deceased, load only their living close heirs from the pedigree, set the net estate, then calculate. You can ✕ remove rows and recalculate.
Set ♂/♀ and †/● on pedigree cards so heirs load correctly. Further study: Mirath · Qurani · Amanah
Educational purpose only — not a fatwa or legal will.
📜 Wasiyyah — Islamic will & bequest
💡 How to draft a Wasiyyah · quick guide
- Order of rights — burial/funeral costs and debts first; then optional bequests; then farāʾiḍ for heirs.
- ⅓ rule — optional wasiyyah to non-heirs / charity is capped at one-third of the net (unless heirs consent).
- Do not use bequests to increase a fixed-share heir’s portion beyond the Qurʾān.
- Guardians & executor (waṣī) — pick trusted adults from the tree or type names; name an alternate.
- Save / print — device-local draft only; formal wills need local legal + scholarly review.
Educational draft only — not a fatwa, not a notarized will. Align with Qurʾān 4:11–12 and local law; ask a scholar and, where required, a lawyer. Farāʾiḍ calculator above is a Hanafi study aid — other madhāhib differ; no binding distribution.
Draft a wasiyyah guided by Sunni fiqh: pay debts & funeral first, optional bequests up to ⅓ of the remainder to non-heirs, then the rest follows farāʾiḍ. This is an educational worksheet — not a lawyer-certified document. Finalise with a qualified scholar and local solicitor/notary for your country.
Net after funeral & debts: — · Max wasiyyah (⅓): —
1 · Debts, trusts & rights (obligatory clarity)
2 · Optional bequests (≤ ⅓ of net · non-heirs only)
Charity, mosque, friends, or relatives who do not already inherit a fixed share. Do not name spouse, parents, or children here to increase their farāʾiḍ share.
3 · Guardian for minor children (if any)
4 · Executor (waṣī) of this wasiyyah
5 · Farāʾiḍ remainder
At least two-thirds of the net estate (or more if you bequeath less than ⅓) is distributed by Qurʾānic shares. Use the Inheritance (Farāʾiḍ) calculator below on this Tools tab after listing heirs on your pedigree.
